Presentation at SCO meeting

Hi everyone,

The Society of Canadian Ornithologists (SCO) annual meeting is next week. Please join our session on October 7th where we will be giving a presentation introducing CanAvian which is titled CanAvian: Advancing Avian Data Integration in Canada.

This will be the official public launch of CanAvian: The Canadian Network for Avian data. CanAvian unites the researchers, conservation practitioners, and volunteer scientists who collect, manage, and share bird data across Canada. It brings together three of the country’s largest biodiversity data platforms: NatureCounts (Birds Canada), Motus, and WildTrax. Together, these platforms hold billions of records and have supported more than 4,500 scientific publications .

With support from the Digital Research Alliance of Canada, CanAvian is working to make these platforms work better together. This includes harmonized data access policies and shared standards, guided by the FAIR and CARE principles, so that avian data can be more easily found, shared, and combined for large-scale research and conservation.

In our presentation, we will be discus sing

· Our governance structure,

· What CanAvian does and how we hope to mature into a National Data Space,

· And how you can get involved

Our session is part of Cross-Country Research Showcase and will be held at 12 :15 EDT.

We hope you see you there!
