Bursary for Students Conducting Research in Norfolk County, ON

THE HARRY B. BARRETT BURSARY

Norfolk Nature manages a bursary to honour one of our founding members who was a dedicated naturalist, teacher, and local historian, as well as author with many books on local history and nature. Harry B. Barrett passed away in 2017 at the age of 94.

Purpose

The purpose of this fund is to assist graduate or post-graduate students in the study, identification and/or monitoring of terrestrial and/or fresh water natural heritage features (e.g., species, ecological communities) in Norfolk County, Ontario.

Application Deadline

Opens March 1st, 2026 and closes on May 31st, 2026

Eligibility

Students currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate studies at an accredited Canadian university or college.

The applicant must be conducting field studies or other research related to Norfolk County, Ontario as a component of their diploma or degree requirements.

Application Requirements

Submit a one-page outline of your work which you feel best fits the purpose of this fund.
Support this with a brief resume which includes any present or past involvement and leadership within the fields of the environment and conservation.

Indicate an active interest in conservation of native species and fieldwork as it relates to, or benefits, Norfolk County, Ontario.

Include your future goals for continuing your involvement with environmental stewardship and/or research.

NOTE: Successful award recipients will be required to write a one-to-two-page final report, including one or more photographs of the recipient in the field, describing the work undertaken and the impact of the award on the recipient’s career plans and present at a meeting of Norfolk Nature.
