Each spring, volunteers across Canada take part in the Nocturnal Owl Survey, helping us understand the health of owl populations in the country’s forest landscapes.
Because many owls are nocturnal and nest early, they can be difficult to monitor. Through the Nocturnal Owl Survey, participants follow a roadside route, stop at designated points for a fixed period, and note the owls they hear.
Surveys begin in February in British Columbia and in mid-March or April everywhere else. We are especially looking for volunteers in the northern and eastern parts of Québec, where coverage is limited.
